The Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through technical expertise and professional services, is proud to announce its contribution to two newly published American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards developed by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The standards include SEIA 301, Solar and Energy Storage Operations and Maintenance Standard: Technician Training, and SEIA 401, Solar and Energy Storage Consumer Protection Standard. Both mark a major milestone in advancing safety, performance, and consumer confidence in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems nationwide. Developed in partnership with SEIA, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and other industry stakeholders, these standards aim to ensure consistent operational practices and protect end users as the solar industry continues to scale. IBTS played a key role as a subcontractor to NREL, providing field-based insight drawn from its national leadership in solar quality assurance. IBTS has completed over 80,000 solar PV plan reviews and inspections across the country, offering unmatched technical knowledge and real-world data in solar quality management. “We’re proud to have contributed to these standards by sharing our deep technical expertise and field experience with solar installations,” said Rudy Saporite, IBTS Energy Services Program Director. “These standards reflect what we’ve learned from years of work across the U.S., with various PV project sizes and installation conditions. We look forward to seeing how these will help build a more resilient and trustworthy solar marketplace.” To support industrywide adoption, SEIA is launching a new online platform at standards.seia.org for companies, consumers, and other stakeholders to access the full suite of SEIA standards and upcoming implementation resources. These are the first two standards out of a total of eleven that solar standards that SEIA has/will/intends to develop to create standardized quality among PV inspections in the United States. IBTS’s contributions to SEIA 301 and SEIA 401 reflect its ongoing commitment to ensuring quality, safety, and public benefit in the energy industry.
